What skin concerns can laser treatments address?
Lasers offer a variety of intensities so they can effectively treat a wide array of skin complaints. Laser treatments may be used to ease the look of:
– Sun damage
– Rosacea
– Birthmarks and angiomas
– Leg veins
– Acne and other scarring
– Wrinkles, facial creases, and fine lines
– Sagging skin
– Sun or age spots
– Vitiligo
– Warts
Laser treatments can also destroy hair follicles to remove unwanted hair from your upper lip, chin, armpits, legs, arms, back, and bikini area.
Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center offers the most appropriate laser procedure for you based on your dermatological needs and cosmetic goals.
How do laser treatments work?
Laser energy boosts your skin’s natural healing mechanisms to rejuvenate its deeper layers. New collagen forms in response to the light energy, so your skin tightens and becomes smoother and more evenly toned.
Age spots and discolored areas absorb the light energy and slough off within a few days of treatment.
If you have laser treatment for hair removal, the energy destroys follicles, so hair can no longer grow. Laser heat also closes broken capillaries to erase visible veins.
How many laser treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you’ll need depends on your particular goals and the type of laser used for your session.
To get the best results with the less intense Candela GentleYAG, for example, you may need treatments repeated every couple of months.
But if you desire dramatic changes and undergo treatment with the more aggressive Fraxel CO2 laser, you should only have (and need) treatment 1-2 times a year.
When will I see the results of laser treatments?
In the first day or two after your laser session, you’ll have some redness and mild swelling. These side effects may last up to seven days after more aggressive resurfacing with the Fraxel CO2 laser.
You’ll then start to notice mild improvements in your skin that only get better over the course of several months as collagen rebuilds and new skin cells emerge.
