Clinical Trial

A clinical trial is a research study that tests the efficacy of a new medication, medical procedure, or medical device. Professionals carry out clinical trials to help establish new treatments and medical solutions before they can be made publicly available. By participating in clinical trials, patients can get firsthand access to new and exciting treatments, as well as the satisfaction of knowing they may be helping other people with similar conditions.
Board-certified dermatologist Paul Yamauchi, MD, PhD, is the Medical Director and President of The Clinical Science Institute. Dr. Yamauchi has established himself as a leader and groundbreaking researcher with over 25 years of experience participating in various dermatological research trials and publications. About Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies during which volunteers can participate in the evaluation and testing of new medical procedures, medications, and treatment options before they are made publicly available. Clinical trials are the most effective methods for establishing successful medical treatments. They can help improve care by providing insights into the efficacy of these new treatments while also ensuring patient safety by conducting tests within a controlled environment. Different types of trials can be performed, including those conducted for treatment, prevention, early detection, and diagnosis. (1) At the Clinical Science Institute, we follow all strict guidelines and protocols put forth by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“By participating in clinical trials, we’re on the cutting edge of technology and know what’s on the forefront to treat various skin conditions. We understand the mechanisms of action for these drugs, know which ones work, and, to an extent, their safety profiles. Any patient with or without health insurance can get study-related medical care at no cost through participating in clinical trials.”

Types of Research
Our team researches different concerns, including:
- Dermatology: Many skin conditions can impact the quality of one’s life and happiness, such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema. At the Clinical Science Institute, our team is consistently working on new, innovative treatments to help alleviate dermatological conditions.
- Skin Cancer: Over time, the ultraviolet rays from the sun can significantly damage the skin. This can lead to the growth of abnormal cancerous skin cells. We prioritize research in this field as we recognize the importance of skin cancer treatments that are effective and precise.
- Skin Care: Skin care treatments are designed to help patients achieve and maintain healthy, glowing skin. Different factors can impact the way one’s skin looks, including environment, lifestyle, age, and genetics.
- Non-Surgical Treatments: Our team has conducted numerous trials to find new ways to revitalize the skin and restore a more youthful-looking appearance. Past trials have included cosmetic procedures such as Botox, dermal fillers, topical creams, and advanced laser treatments.
